Need someone to capture your moment? Reel It connects you with a trusted local Reelo who can take the photos and videos, while you stay present in them.
Hi, I’m Sunetra Pal Chowdhury, the founder of Reel It. I grew up in Calcutta, studied Economics at the University of Calcutta, and later moved across the U.S. for graduate school and work, eventually pursuing my Master’s in Business Analytics.
Somewhere along the way, sitting in New York, surrounded by a city where everyone seems to be living, creating, filming, posting, and somehow looking effortlessly photogenic while doing it, an old frustration of mine started feeling less like a random complaint and more like an idea.
Reel It didn’t begin with a spreadsheet, a business model, or some dramatic founder light-bulb moment.
It began with something much more serious: getting ready, spending what felt like a small national budget on the outfit, the makeup and the plan… and then realizing that the entire photography department was my mom.
That silly little frustration kept following me.
At concerts, on trips, at birthdays, over coffee, on dates, or on one of those unexpectedly good days, I kept thinking the same thing: why is it still so hard to get a few good photos or videos of an ordinary moment without turning it into a full photoshoot?
Not everyone needs a photographer for an entire day. Sometimes you just want someone for 30 minutes who understands the angle, the candid moment, the vertical video, and the fact that you actually want to be present instead of managing the camera the whole time.
That became the first half of Reel It: a simple way to book a trusted local person, a Reelo, to capture the moment while you actually get to live it. For creators and small businesses, that same idea can mean something more practical too: getting content made without turning every shoot into a production or searching endlessly for someone available.
The second half of the idea became even more important to me. I grew up in India, and it is impossible not to see how difficult finding steady work can be for so many people, especially young people trying to build a livelihood. At the same time, an entire economy has grown around short-form video, social media, photography and content. I kept wondering whether those two realities could meet.
Reel It is my attempt to make that meeting useful. Someone who already knows how to shoot, or wants to build that skill, can turn it into flexible gig work. An experienced photographer or videographer can use the platform as another way to find customers and grow a business. A creator, traveller, couple or local shop can find someone when they actually need them. One booking is a captured memory for one person — and paid work for another.
We are starting thoughtfully, learning as we go, and building around a very simple belief: technology should make everyday life a little easier, a little more human, and, if possible, create opportunity along the way. Every moment deserves a reel.
Reel It is not a traditional photography studio. It is an on-demand marketplace for everyday content capture, dates, travel, birthdays, profile photos, creator content and spontaneous moments.

A few of the basics we expect customers and Reelos to ask first.
A Reelo is a person who accepts Reel It bookings to capture photos or video for customers through the platform.
Yes. Customers can choose whether the Reelo uses the Reelo’s equipment or the customer’s own phone/camera, subject to the booking details.
The product is designed around an explicit transfer and local-deletion confirmation step so the handoff is clear to both sides.
Cancellation rules depend on the booking stage. The intended experience gives customers a short review window after matching but prevents ordinary cancellation once the Reelo is already on the way.
Reelos select a saved bank account or UPI payout method and see their expected earnings inside the app.
